Diversity Scholarships

Go Comedy! is committed to fostering a community that is welcoming to all people, and that accurately reflects the diversity of our society. We strive to create more inclusive comedy that represents all voices, and provide a training program that fosters that goal. Our scholarship program offers aid to students who may not otherwise be able to afford improv classes, paying special attention to students from historically marginalized communities, including:

  • People of color

  • Female-identifying persons

  • LGBTQIA+ folx, people who are gender non-conforming, or outside the gender binary

  • People with disabilities

Go Comedy! understands that the cost of improv classes is a luxury, and that not every person possesses the disposable income commensurate with their talent. In an effort to make classes more accessible, with special attention to the groups mentioned above, we will award two full semester (8 weeks) scholarships each term, and a limited number of supplemental class scholarships to put towards a semester. For reference, the cost of one 8-week class is $250. We do ask that applicants be mindful of financial need when applying.

These scholarships are not solely income-based, and for low income students who may not fit into one of the above categories we do offer ushering and internship programs to offset the cost of classes. Please reach out to classes@gocomedy.net for more information about those.

Lastly, the scholarship cannot be exchanged for money. If you’ve already paid for a class, it cannot be applied retroactively, but you are encouraged to apply for future classes. If you receive a scholarship and are unable to complete the class, you may defer it for up to two terms.

Scholarship applications will be awarded three days after Go U registration opens for the term, so please note that when applying.
